It usually happen when you incorrectly install freeware or shareware that might be containing ads. Except that the can introduce changes to web browser’s homepage and newtab, it also changes your search provider, which leads to the fact that use of the browser’s search becomes uncomfortable. The reason for this is that the search results will consist of a lot of ads, links to unwanted and ad web pages and only the remaining part is search results for your query from well-known search engines such as Google or Bing.
Basically, some hijackers also contain ‘ad-supported’ software or also known as adware, which can be used as a tool  to open intrusive advertisements and or collect personal information about you that can be sold to third parties ang definitely generates revenue. Unwanted ads can be displayed as pop-unders, pop-ups, in-text ads, video advertisements, text links or banners or even massive full page ads. Most of the adware is purposely designed to display advertisements, but certain ad supported software is form of spyware that often used to track users browsing history and to gather lots of user data.
So, it is essentially important to clean your PC of browser hijackers as soon as possible or as soon.  as you know it’s being infected. You can follow the step-by-step instructions provided  below, in order for you to get rid of startpage from the Google Chrome, FF, Internet Explorer and Edge and other web-browsers.

How to manually remove

Most common browser hijackers may be deleted without any antivirus software if you know how to manually operate the system.

Uninstall malicious  and potentially unwanted applications using Windows Control Panel

We highly  recommend that you start the computer clean up procedure by checking the list of installed programs and remove all unknown or suspicious applications. This is a very important step, since it’s often the malicious applications such as adware and browser hijackers are bundled with free applications. Remove the unwanted programs can eliminate the annoying ads or browser redirect, thus making your browsing expeirience smooth and fast once again.

  1. If you are using Windows 8, 8.1 or 10 then click Windows button, next click Search. Type “Control panel”and press Enter.
  2. If you are using Windows XP, Vista, 7, then click “Start” button and click “Control Panel”.
  3. It will open the Windows Control Panel.
  4. Further, click “Uninstall a program” under Programs category.
  5. It will open a list of all applications installed on the computer.
  6. Scroll through the all list, and delete suspicious and unknown programs. To quickly find the latest installed software, we recommend sort applications by date.


Clean up the internet browsers shortcuts hijacked by

A hijacker may hijack various Windows shortcuts on your desktop which in most cases, and most often, all web browsers shortcuts, so in this step all you need to do is check and clean them by removing the argument such as http://site.address/.
Clear the internet browser shortcut by right-click to it and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, locate the Target field. Click inside, you will see a vertical line – arrow pointer, move it (using -> arrow key on your keyboard) to the right as possible. You will see a text similar “http://site.address” that has been added here. You need to delete it. When the text is removed, click the OK button. You need to clean all shortcuts of all your browsers, as they may be infected too.

Elimintae from Firefox by resetting browser settings

If the Firefox browser program is hijacked, then resetting its settings can help. The Reset feature is available on all modern version of Firefox. A reset can fix many issues by restoring Firefox settings like newtab, startpage and search engine by default to its default state. It will save your personal information such as saved passwords, bookmarks, and open tabs.
First, open the Firefox and click Mozilla Firefox menu button button. It will show the drop-down menu on the right-part of the web-browser.

In the Help menu, select the “Troubleshooting Information” option. Another way to open the “Troubleshooting Information” screen – type “about:support” in the web browser adress bar and press Enter. It will open the “Troubleshooting Information” page as shown on the screen below. In the upper-right corner of this screen, click the “Refresh Firefox” button.

It will open the confirmation dialog box. Further, click the “Refresh Firefox” button. The Firefox will start a process to fix your problems that caused by the browser hijacker. Once, it’s finished, click the “Finish” button.

Get rid of homepage from IE

If you find that Microsoft Internet Explorer internet browser settings such as newtab, start page and search provider by default having been hijacked, then you may revert back your settings, via the reset web browser procedure.
First, run the IE. Next, press the button in the form of gear (Internet Explorer tools menu icon). It will show the Tools drop-down menu, click the “Internet Options” as shown on the screen below.

In the “Internet Options” window click on the Advanced tab, then press the Reset button. The Internet Explorer will open the “Reset Internet Explorer settings” window as shown below. Select the “Delete personal settings” check box, then click “Reset” button.

You will now need to reboot your system for the changes to take effect.

Remove from Google Chrome

Reset Google Chrome settings is a simple way to get rid of the browser hijacker, dangerous and adware extensions, as well as to restore the browser’s newtab page, startpage and search engine by default that have been replaced by browser hijacker.


  1. First run the Google Chrome and click Menu button (small button in the form of three horizontal stripes).
  2. It will open the Google Chrome main menu. Select “Settings” option.

  4. Scroll down again and press the “Reset settings” button.
