High Definition gaming was cool for a while. But today, the latest smartphones have full HD resolutions. It’s nothing special anymore, which is why many gamers have bumped up to 2560×1600 on 30 inch screens.
Up until now, resolutions this high have only been supported on external monitors. But one PC manufacturer has now released a 3K gaming laptop alongside a 3K mobile workstation. These laptops blow HD out of the water.
The laptops were created by MSI and feature a WQHD+ resolution. Since nobody knows what WQHD+ actually means, I’ll tell you in terms that actually make sense: it’s 2880×1620, a resolution which many have nicknamed 3K.
‘3K’ puts that resolution squarely between full HD and 4K HD. Since most 4K screens are way beyond the budgets of consumers, it’s easy to appreciate a middle ground option.

The GT60 2OD-261US gaming laptop features the following specifications:
-15.6-inch screen with 2880×1620 resolution
-Intel Core i7 4700MQ CPU
-16GB DDR3L 1600MHz RAM
-GeForce GTX 780M graphics card
-128GB SSD
-1TB hard drive (7200 RPM, which is fast for a laptop)
-Speakers with subwoofer
-Windows 8
-SteelSeries backlit keyboard
-Blu-Ray reader, three USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, 720p webcam, and plenty of other cool features
At the same time, MSI also unveiled a workstation with very similar specs. The major difference is that the workstation doesn’t have the same powerful graphics card and runs Windows 7 Professional edition.
So how much does all this power cost? The gaming laptop costs $2,200 and the workstation costs $2,800.
