What is Encr ransomware? And how does it execute its attack?
Encr ransomware is a new file-encrypting virus designed to lock important data in a computer which leaves them inaccessible to users. It renames data to encrypted hex with dashes and uses .encr extension to mark its encrypted data. Once it enters a targeted computer, it drops its malicious payload and connects the system to a remote server. From this remote server, it downloads several malicious components and places them to system folders.
After establishing connection, it employs a data gathering module to collect information about the system and its user. The information gathered, along with the added malicious files are then used for the stealth protection module which protects the crypto-malware from and prevents any program installed in the system from interrupting its attack. Moreover, it also makes changes in the Windows Registry by modifying some registry entries and keys as well as create new ones – this is done to make sure that Encr ransomware can run on every system boot automatically. Once all these system changes are carried out, it starts scanning the entire drive of the computer and scan for files with the following extensions:

Following data encryption, it adds the .encr suffix to every affected file and releases a file named “readmy.txt” which contains the following message:
“Attention! All your files are encrypted!
To recover your files and access them,
send a message with your id to email
Please note when installing or running antivirus will be deleted
important file to decrypt your files and data will be lost forever!!!!
You have 5 attempts to enter the code. If you exceed this
the number, all the data, will be irreversibly corrupted. Be
careful when entering the code!
How does Encr ransomware spread over the web?
Encr ransomware might spread using several techniques. Usually, a payload dropper initiates the malicious script for this kind of cyber threat and is spread all over the web. It may be via malicious spam email campaigns. In fact, the email containing the malware may even look like a legitimate one since crooks tend to disguise malware-laden emails to trick users into opening them. Thus, before you open any attachment, make sure that you double check them first.

Step 1: Launch the Task Manager by simply tapping Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys on your keyboard.
Step 2: Under the Task Manager, go to the Processes tab and look for any suspicious-looking process which takes up most of your CPU’s resources and is most likely related to Encr ransomware.
Step 3: After that, close the Task Manager.
Step 4: Tap Win + R, type in appwiz.cpl and click OK or tap Enter to open Control Panel’s list of installed programs.
Step 5: Under the list of installed programs, look for Encr ransomware or anything similar and then uninstall it.
Step 6: Next, close Control Panel and tap Win + E keys to launch File Explorer.
Step 7: Navigate to the following locations below and look for Encr ransomware’s malicious components such as [random].exe, readmy.txt, and other suspicious files, then delete all of them.
Step 8: Close the File Explorer.

Step 9: Tap Win + R to open Run and then type in regedit in the field and tap enter to pull up Windows Registry.

Step 11: Delete the registry keys and sub-keys created by Encr ransomware.

Try to recover your encrypted files using the Shadow Volume copies
Restoring your encrypted files using Windows’ Previous Versions feature will only be effective if Encr ransomware hasn’t deleted the shadow copies of your files. But still, this is one of the best and free methods there is, so it’s definitely worth a shot.
To restore the encrypted file, right-click on it and select Properties, a new window will pop-up, then proceed to Previous Versions. It will load the file’s previous version before it was modified. After it loads, select any of the previous versions displayed on the list like the one in the illustration below. And then click the Restore button.

Perform a full system scan using [product-code]. To do so, follow these steps:
- Turn on your computer. If it’s already on, you have to reboot it.
