What is Cookies Control? And how does it work?
Cookies Control is a browser extension for Google Chrome browser that supposedly enables its users to monitor and control cookies on several websites. On a first glance, it may look like a legitimate and useful application and it might seem a practical tool for users who are concerned about their online privacy. However, after its installation, it starts to show its real color. So due to its unwanted behaviors, it is categorized as an adware and a potentially unwanted program (PUP).
One of the reasons why it is categorized as such is that it stealthily sneaks its way into your computer without your permission. And even if you intentionally added this extension, you might have been deceived by its Privacy Policy which tells you that it does not track its users’ activities online when in fact it does. As you can probably notice, the intrusive ads displayed somewhat matches your interests or taste, this is because Cookies Control keeps track of your online activities to gather personal information. The information gathered is shared with third parties to generate revenue from displaying sponsored contents.
In addition, this questionable browser extension might also deliver ads that could lead you to suspicious sites that want to get your personal information or offer to install bogus applications. It does not take an expert to see that Cookies Control is a threat to your security. Thus, removing it as soon as you can would be the wisest thing to do.
How is Cookies Control distributed?
In all fairness, Cookies Control is distributed on its official website as well as on the Chrome Webs store. However, according to our researchers, you can also obtain this program from free sharing sites that offer software bundles. Most cyber crooks rely on this distribution technique for most users tend to rush their installation without paying any mind to each step. The thing is when you install software bundle, you must opt for the Custom or Advanced setup rather than the quick one so that you can deselect the extra programs in the bundle. It would also help if you carefully read and comprehend each step instead of just clicking Next and Next just to get the installation over and done with.
Since Cookies Control only works on Google Chrome browser, you won’t have such a hard time removing it. All you have to do is to follow the steps below to get rid of it.
