What is System Health Checker?

System Health Checker is categorized as a Potentially Unwanted Program. Users who visited its official website are forced to download this browser extension before they can exit the website with a pop-up that displays, “Add Extension to Leave”. It is an add-on that is offered and on its official website (https://systemhealthchecker.com) or at the Chrome Web Store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/system-health-monitor/mbmpjhclgodpjgbjhlnknfjdnjkijokf?hl=en).
Forcing you to download a software should alarm you for no legitimate software forces a user to download it, that’s why it is classified as a potentially unwanted program. It is one of the reasons why you should not even consider downloading it. Although System Health Checker is not a severe infection, you still have to avoid it at all cost, and if it’s already installed in your browser, you have to get rid of it.
This potentially unwanted program does not provide much information about itself except for these few words, “Monitor your system health and prevent before too late” judging that short description and grammar, it only goes to show that this extension can’t be trusted. Our team of researchers and specialists have tried and tested this extension and the results showed that it does not monitor your system’s health at all, or better yet literally does nothing on your system’s health and as per our specialists, this extension is quite buggy or it could be still under development. All it does is disable your Add-ons Manager and Extensions menu making it difficult for users to reach it. And because of this, it is hard to tell if System Health Checker is also responsible for it. To find out if this browser extension is active on your computer, all you have to do is find its folder named mbmpjhclgodpjgbjhlnknfjdnjkijokf located at LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extension or %UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Extensions. If you did find it in these directories, then, without a doubt, System Health Checker is active on your browser.
Another factor to consider why it is classified as a PUP is because of the way it has gotten into computers without the users knowing. And even though it has two websites which you can download this program from, that does not make it a legitimate program at all since some users have this in their computer even though they did not install it. Whenever this happens, it is very much possible that this was installed through a bundled software which is a very common way to distribute suspicious software among PUPs, adware, malware and other threats. So to simply put it, the chances of your computer being infected is quite high. So you must take precautions when you download a bundled software; scan the file first using an excellent and up-to-date antivirus and pay close attention to the installation process.
