If you’re like most PC users, then you hate waiting for your PC to boot up. On older computers, the startup sequence can take several minutes to complete, and even newer PCs can have boot time problems – particularly if there is a lot of software installed.
Fortunately, there is one easy way to speed up your startup sequence. By setting Windows to automatically login to your account without prompting for a password, you can significantly reduce the time it takes to boot up your computer. While this tip does not require you to change software settings or upgrade your hardware, a tweak like this can make your life a lot easier. And, best of all, it’s free.
-Go to the Windows 7 Start menu and search for ‘user accounts’. Press enter when you find it.
-Look for the line that says ‘Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer’ and check the little box beside it.
-Type in whatever user name and password combination you want to automatically login with during every startup sequence.
-Press the ‘OK’ button and restart your computer to verify the changes.
A word of warning
This tweak allows you to bypass the user account screen entirely – even if your account has a password. While this is an easy way to speed up your computer’s boot times, it isn’t a very secure way to manage your computer. If you’re worried about unauthorized users accessing your account, then a login screen is an effective way to safeguard your computer.
