What is Satan’s Doom Crypter 2 ransomware? And how does it implement its attack?
Satan’s Doom Crypter 2 ransomware is a file-encrypting threat that belongs to the Hidden Tear ransomware family. It seems like the developers of this crypto-malware has chosen to use the elements from a well-known video games series called “Diablo”. As soon as it is able to get a hold of a targeted PC, it will start looking for files to encrypt. Satan’s Doom Crypter 2 ransomware is designed to encrypt files with the following extensions:
.txt, .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .pdf, .pps, .ppt, .pptx, .odt, .gif, .jpg, .png, .db, .csv, .sql, .mdb.sln.php, .asp, .aspx, .html, .xml, .psd, .frm, .myd, .myi, .dbf, .mp3, .mp4, .avi, .mov, .mpg, .rm, .wmv, .m4a, .mpa, .wav, .sav, .gam, .log, .ged, .msg, .myo, .tax, .ynab, .ifx, .ofx, .qfx, .qif, .qdf, .tax2013, .tax2014, .tax2015, .box, .ncf, .nsf, .ntf, .lwp
During the encryption, Satan’s Doom Crypter 2 ransomware will use the AES encryption algorithm in leaving the files inaccessible to victims. After the encryption, it will append the .locked extension on each one of the encrypted files. It then opens a program window containing its ransom note:
“Satan’s Doom Crypter 2
< What happened to My Computer? >
All your files has been encrypted with advanced military encryption.
Your documents, photo’s, videos and much more are no more accessible to you.
You can only gain access to it again using our own decryption tool
< How do I get my files back? >
We can easily decrypt your files remotely, but you have to do something first.
It’s plain simple. You want your files safely decrypted again?. Then you need to pay.
If you don’t pay within 4 days the amount will be doubled.
If we haven’t received a payment within 3 more days we will destroy the unique decryption key.
Even we won’t be able to decrypt any of your files.
< How do I Pay? >
The only way to pay is using Bitcom only. Send the correct amount of Bitcoin to the address specified below.
Once you have made the payment click check payment.
If the payment gets verified you will be given the unique key to Decrypt all your files.
< I Cannot Pay! >
If for some reason you cannot pay (and please be honest) email to
[email protected] for why you cannot pay or if you think your data has something personal (not games, but say photos of your kids e.t.c.), then that email is for you.
A PAYMENT OF $250 HAS TO BE SEND TO THIS BITCOIN ADDRESS
13w18TAAS3e4S8Z9W9Rkks734NbP6G7r8z
[CHECK PAYMENT] [DECRYPT FILES]”
This crypto-malware also creates a file named READ_IT.txt which also contains another ransom note which states:
“SATAN’S DOOM CRYPTER 2.0
Your personal files have been securely encrypted with an advanced military algorithm. Send us BTC to get decryption code. YOUR UNIQUE UNLOCK ID:
63uh2372gASd@316
After that, you’ll be able to see your beloved files again.
SATANS DOOM CRYPTER 2.0”
Moreover, the ransomware also changes the desktop wallpaper with a black image. If you are one of the victims of this threat, know that paying the ransom it demands won’t really help as it does not really guarantee your file’s recovery. The best thing you could do is to obliterate the threat first and then try recovery options to decrypt your encrypted files.
How does Satan’s Doom Crypter 2 ransomware spread its malicious file(s)?
It isn’t clear how Satan’s Doom Crypter 2 ransomware spread its malicious files but just like typical ransomware threats it might be utilizing spam emails. Cybercrooks often attach an infected attachment, be it a ZIP file, a document or an executable file. These emails are usually in disguise to make them look like they’re legitimate and even use well-known companies’ names just to get users to open the email and download the attachment.
