Looking for more Windows shortcuts to make you the Windows master? Here are some of our favorites we use every day.
Windows Key + D: Minimizes all app windows and brings you right to the desktop. You can press it once more to bring all your apps back to the foreground. It’s a fast and easy way to hide something on your desktop screen.
-Windows Key + Arrow Keys: Snaps app left, right, or up. Use the Windows Key with the right or left arrow to snap your apps to different sides of your screen. You can also use the up arrow key to maximize the app across your entire screen, or the down arrow to minimize it.
-Ctrl + Esc: Opens Start menu. Are you using a keyboard without a Windows key? This can probably be jarring if you’re used to having that key below your pinky at all times. In any case, Ctrl+Esc brings up your Start menu.
-Ctrl + Backspace: Deletes entire words in various programs. Another under-utilized shortcut, Ctrl + Backspace will delete an entire word. Instead of holding down the backspace button or pressing it 10 times in a row, you can just press it once to get rid of the word you just typed. You can also press Ctrl + Backspace and hold down backspace in order to remove sentences and paragraphs more quickly than the normal backspace.
-Windows Key + Ctrl + D: Create a virtual desktop with this shortcut. You can also use Windows Key + Ctrl + F4. In any case, these shortcuts create or close a virtual desktop.
-Windows Key + Tab: Displays the Task View interface for an overview of all virtual desktops. Then, you can use the arrow keys and tab button to toggle through desktops. When you want to jump to a selected desktop, hit Enter. Using this shortcut and the one above, you can do everything you need to do with virtual desktops.
-Ctrl + Shift + T: Opens last closed browser tab. This is a browser-specific shortcut, but it works in all major Windows browsers (Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and IE). It opens the last tab you closed. If you just accidentally closed something important, then this shortcut is a lifesaver.
-Windows Key + L: Locks your computer. Need to get up and grab a coffee? If you’re in an office, get into the habit of typing Windows Key + L to immediately lock your PC. Do this every time you get up.
